Alan Turing Research

Alan Turing, born 23rd of june,1912, was a brilliant mathematician, who devised the enigma machine, which cracked german codes using a core machine called a bombe which cracked the code by finding contradictions, essentially putting an end to the war. He devised the Turing test, in which a human talks to a computer using preset questions to see if computers can become good enough with a human language to blend in . There are many variations of it, such as the infamous “Chinese room”, which is a test to see if a machine can really understand a language, or if it is just bluffing. He also developed the worlds first stored program(ie: it had a hard drive) computer, the Manchester MK1. In fact, he is called the founder of computer science. One of the things he did concerning computers was to make a chess program for a computer that did not yet exist. He knew that it worked, however, because he played a game of chess against a friend, following the rules that he had set down. This, however, caused him to take half an hour over each move. This brilliant man died at the age of forty-one, in 1954, on the seventh of June. He committed suicide by eating an apple poisoned with cyanide. Some people thought he was re-enacting a scene from his favorite fairy tale, Snow White.
